Evan is the owner of the Beaverkill Angler. Originally from Michigan, he has been living on the East Coast since 1992. Michigan has numerous streams and lakes, so he grew up chasing trout, steelhead, salmon & bass. Evan was also able to spend a good deal of time in saltwater on the Rhode Island coast and in Cape Cod guiding, instructing and working in a fly shop in the mid-1990's. After a brief time in the West, he decided to chase fortune in Manhattan which gave him the opportunity to visit the Catskills as a weekend warrior pursuing trout. After buying a house nearby and meeting the catch of his life, Michelle, he decided to move here full time.
The Beaverkill Angler came available for sale in 2006, and Evan seized the opportunity. Having been on these waters since 1998 and getting close to 100 days-a-year fishing since then, he's learned a lot about the hatches and habitat but acknowledges that there is always more to learn.
In Evan's own words, "I am a lucky man to have the opportunity to carry on the tradition at the Beaverkill Angler and hope to for many years to come. We've made a lot of changes to the layout of the shop. We will continue to be progressive, and we'll change as this fishery, and the people who fish it, change too. Thank you for your continued loyalty to the Beaverkill Angler name."
Matt manages the Beaverkill Angler. He grew up in Minnesota where he fly fished the driftless region for trout, and the lakes and bigger rivers for bass, pike, walleye, and panfish. Before moving to Roscoe, Matt spent 9 years fly fishing and guiding in Wyoming and Montana. Along with fishing the waters close to home, he has also traveled to New Zealand, Belize, and the Bahamas to wet a fly.
When Matt's not in the shop he spends his time tying flies, fishing (of course), bird hunting, and doing his best to keep up with his energetic dog. Steelheading and classic spey and steelhead flies have recently become passions for him.
